What happened to the Studiofanmail.com
Auto Replies (Autoresponders)?
Studio Fan Mail has discontinued the automatic responses on most of the email accounts. This decision was necessary because the amount of spam coming into our server has increased dramatically in recent months. Most of the spam messages have reply addresses that are non-existent, forged or artificial. This causes our autoresponders to reply with thousands of messages that cannot be delivered and which may even be regarded as spam by some other email servers. The result is that we risk becoming "blacklisted" by other email systems, which will prevent us from sending email to their users.
We are still sending autographed pictures to our clients’ fans. It’s important, however, to make sure you INCLUDE YOUR POSTAL ADDRESS in your message. And remember the following advice, which was previously sent to you automatically in response to your messages:
“Allow at least 6-8 weeks for your request to be processed. Pictures will be sent by postal mail, not e-mail. Due to high volumes of mail being handled, we cannot reply personally to your questions or comments. One autograph request per e-mail, please. Any message with more than one recipient in the "to:" line, or that has undisclosed recipients, or that uses "cc:" (carbon-copy) or "bcc:" (blind carbon-copy) may be filtered and automatically rejected. We reserve the right to limit the number of photos that will be sent to any individual requestor. These complimentary photos are not approved for auction or resale.â€Â

SFM had to stop auto-replying after receiving emails for many of their clients because of the amount of emails they were receiving (legitimate or otherwise).
Obviously, they didn't want to be seen as spammers themselves - but you should still (hopefully) be receiving your photo sooner or later
This mainly stems from the fact that many websites on the internet post lists, or individual email addresses of SFM clients ... which mean that spammers can scan, find and spam any email addresses they find
Don't be alarmed if you don't receive an auto-reply. This won't mean that you won't be receiving a photo.

I gotta agree with what nowandagain posted above. Many spammers use software called spambots which are just programs which search internet websites for email addresses. When an email address is found, the spambots take the email address & use it to sent spam to it.
So lets say that a spambot checks out fanmail.biz, it will copy all of the celebrity email addresses & add it to its list of email addresses & then the spammer will use it send spam to it.
And since SFM does get a lot of request espically since all of the Friends cast & most of the former Buffy The Vampire Slayer stars (Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, Charisma Carpenter, David Boreanaz, Seth Green & Marc Blucas) use SFM so they get a lot of email.
