Government email addresses

Unread post by Nightstalker »

I don't know how many of you are into this but I thought I'd post it here for any that may be...

If you would like to get an autographed picture from a congressman, senator or state governor go to this page...

http://www.conservativeusa.org/mega-cong.htm

I started off by emailing the governor of my state. I got no reply to my email but in 2 weeks there was a large brown envelope in my mailbox from the "Office of the Governor". Woohoo! So I emailed a few more governors... and sure enough the mail came. So then I went nuts with it. I emailed ALL 50 governors and out of the 50 I got about 35 responses. Which isn't too bad of a ratio. So I resubmitted a request to the 15 holdouts and managed to get a few more. Not bad really for investing nothing but a little time sending emails. I then started on the congressmen and then the senators. Got many good replies from that too.

You have to remember these people are like celebrities too. They have a busy day and don't have much time for signing pictures so you usually get a preprint or autopen. However there are a few that will send them back personalized. The personalized ones I received include Senators John McCain, Phil Gramm and Strom Thurmond (I received his personalized photo just 2 weeks before he passed away.)

The governors are the same, I received a few personalized photos from them as well. There are a few governors that stand out but the one above them all is the former Governor of Alabama, Don Seigelman. He sent back a large package including his personalized 8X10, A signature card, a signed business card, a signed baseball card, a map of the state, several booklets about the state, a signed letter thanking me for my interest and an personal invitation to attend the annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at the Capitol in Montgomery as a guest of the Governor! And every year until the end of his term I received a Christmas Card from the Governor. Truly a very nice man.

Now for the one Governor that really ticked me off... Former Governor of Minnesota/Former Wrestler Jesse Ventura. I wrote and asked for his picture for inclusion in my collection of Governors and was told I'd have to PAY $15.00 for it. I tried explaining to his people that I was not interested in his picture as that of a celebrity but as a governor who's photos are paid for by the taxpayers and has no right charging for them. I basically got a flat "No." So I replied, "Ok, Keep the picture, you're not gonna be re-elected anyway and I'm sure your successor will be happy to send me one." And I was right. I have Governor Tim Pawlenty's photo neatly filed in my filing cabinet with the other pictures of the Governors. :)

So keep this in mind if you're writing a governor in the future who happens to be famous before becoming Governor. This is especially true with the current Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger. While he does not charge for the pic's. You'll get a response that he's just too busy and receives tons of requests for photo's. Which I can understand a lot more easily than "Pay me.". But hey who knows, you might get lucky. Write to the Governator here: http://www.govmail.ca.gov/ and if you get a success, let me know!!!

Oh, You can also try the higher up in government too. I sent one to the president several times but have yet to see it.. But I did get pics back from Colin Powell and Donald Rumsfeld. Also The Director of the FBI & CIA And the Secretaries of Education, Agriculture and Interior. Pretty cool and all for free... Good Luck!

Thanks!!!! No, I don't think it was fair to say you had to pay for the picture because they have to remember that the people elect them. Sounds like you got a lot of nice things!!!
