Thumbs up to you Caappy- I think I got his address from your feedback! I've been getting addresses here for about a year- I figured it's time I give back and post feedback myself. Can't get the pics up tonight- but will definitely get up tomorrow!
Edit: Added photos! These bad boys came back in mint condition. Just a mailing tip for anyone obsessive over the condition of your items: I like sending my photos, book-plates, and first day covers in toploaders. It really insures what I send will get back without any damage. I mail 5x7 photos in 8x10 toploaders- It's good to have that extra room. I mail FDC's and book-plates in 5x7 toploaders. Also- it's a good idea to tape across the top so nothing slips out. I will also leave a polite note asking if they will return the item in the toploader so it doesn't get damaged. In my experiences, toploaders do a much better job than cardboard.
Toploaders can still get bent a bit though. If it's something I really want protected, I use a sheet protector taped to a thick piece of cardboard, or better yet, sandwiched between two pieces of cardboard.

Hi Hartster-
I'm having pretty good luck with the toploaders... Some of the 5x7 photos I put in 5x7 toploaders are coming back damaged because they are slipping out the top. But the extra room I get with 8x10 toploaders allows for some movement without the photo slipping out and exposing the corners to damage. I never tried taping a sleeve to cardboard, but that sounds like a good idea too. Hey, whatever gets your items back in mint (or near mint) condition!
Toploaders are also a bit more compared to a box of sheet protectors... ;)

Hi Hartster-
I hear ya. This can be an expensive hobby- but it is so much fun! It makes every afternoon exciting... you never know what you're gonna get (to quote Forrest Gump)!
